Brushless dc motors have many similarities to AC induction motors and brushed DC motors in terms of construction and working principles respectively. Like all other motors, BLDC motors also have a rotor and a stator. The BLDC motor stator is made out of Silicon steel sheet stacked up to carry the windings and the rotor is made out of permanent magnets.
BLDC motors are a derivative of the most commonly used DC motor, the brushed DC motor, and they share the same torque and speed performance curve characteristics. The major difference between the two is the use of brushes. BLDC motors do not have brushes (hence the name “brushless DC”) and must be electronically commutated. This change make the brushless dc motor can provide more efficiency than brushed DC motor and less maintenance cost.
